EU to target £15bn of American goods in case of a trade war

Logistics and Supply Chain News Uncategorized

The European Union has published a list of American goods that will fall under new tariffs in case of a tit-for-tat trade dispute with the USA.

The move comes after the US president Donald Trump announced earlier in April Washington is ready to impose $11bn worth of tariffs on specific key European industries. Both parties have been in a long lasting dispute over state subsidise for the two plane manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, claiming the other supports the producers in an unfair way.

The EU was quick to clarify that it does not want a tit-for-tat trade war but is publishing the list to show its readiness to respond in case the US hits European goods and manufacturers. Amongst the products that would fall under scrutiny are ketchup and game consoles. Brussels says it is looking at goods that have a good European alternative so consumers will still have enough choice without having to pay more.
