Have countries forgotten about ship crews?

“We would love to see changes as soon as possible but it remains a case of individual countries trying to contain the virus,” Peter Sand, Analyst from BIMCO comments, for The Logistics Point. According to the expert in doing so many places have completely forgotten about the seafarers.

The Philippines is currently seeking to become one of the few major international hubs that allows crew changes to happen but travel restrictions elsewhere and the lack of flights is making it nearly impossible. BIMCO sees no easing of the situation any time soon. Members are encouraged to get in touch with local governments and find a solution that will work for both sides.

The state of the shipping industry raises many questions. Liner companies have successfully adjusted to Covid-19 but customers are now faced with fewer choices. Markets in Europe and North America are slow to recover but Asia is picking up.
