Hermes to open new depot in Bolton with 100 new jobs

Hermes, one of the UK’s leading consumer delivery companies, has announced its plans to open a new, purpose-built depot In Bolton in Autumn 2021. It forms part of the company’s ongoing investment into its infrastructure, designed to support its significant volume increases which saw a record 600 million successful deliveries in 2020, up from 400 million.

The new Wingates Estate Bolton depot will replace an existing site nearby with all current staff transferring and being joined by an additional 100 new recruits across a range of roles, include traditional warehousing roles, but also a variety of management positions across customer services, compliance and finance. It will be able to handle almost 3 times more parcels – 220,000 per day.

With sustainability a key driver for Hermes, the new Bolton site will feature EV charging points, energy efficient measures including smart lighting and will be built to BREEAM certified specifications. The ability to sort more parcels locally will be increased, which enables Hermes to reduce parcel miles annually, ultimately decreasing each parcel’s carbon footprint.
