Secure drop off and go: Self storage reimagined, and removals too

Logistics and Supply Chain News

An innovative UK company is looking for partners to work with as it rethinks storage with a unique approach to helping people safely store and move their property and valuables.

LOVESPACE has recently launched a nationwide removals service and unique drive-up storage lockers in London car parks.

Its service will resonate with the under 45 year olds market who might be renting and need to move home or place items in storage. Traditionally, the self storage sector has appealed more to those aged in their 50s who may own a car and need more space for valuables and property than is currently available at their home.

LOVESPACE is keen to develop links in the build-to-rent sector and is exploring partnerships with developers and operators to host on-site lockers to provide residents with a storage solution. It is also exploring further opportunities with car park operators nationally.

The firm also partners couriers and removals firms to deliver storage with collection and delivery services, as well as warehouses and storage businesses of all shapes and sizes across the UK.

LOVESPACE was recently chosen by Transport for London (TfL) to trial its storage solution in a number of its car parks over a 12-month period following a nationwide competition. Transport for London sought ideas to boost customer experience and bolster the Mayor’s Transport Strategy following the pandemic – with ideas to generate a viable income stream, benefit the environment and ensure existing car parking was not disrupted.

In January, the first LOVESPACE storage lockers – around 15 square feet in size – were opened in Leytonstone, with South Harrow, Morden, Queensbury and South Woodford to follow next.

LOVESPACE offers customers the opportunity to use lockers within the car parks to drop off items that they wish to put into storage. It then collects their items and transports them to a larger secure storage location until customers wish to get their items back.

Will Edwards, CEO at LOVESPACE said: “We want to provide a sustainable, secure and convenient solution to people who are looking for self-storage options, but don’t want to commit to traditional storage units.

“By offering easy to access locations where people can securely drop-off and pick up their stuff, not only are we aiming to provide a better service to people looking for storage, but we’re also hoping to help reduce the environmental impact that comes from customers having to individually travel long distances to access storage units. We are delighted to partner with TfL on this exciting project and are looking forward to making this a successful offering for Londoners.”

Nigel Pickup, Head of Commercial Property at TfL, said: “Our work with LOVESPACE is part of our wider strategy to work with innovative companies who can put forward ideas to help customers into practice. By using our space and assets more efficiently, we can generate additional value that can be reinvested into the transport network.”
