Flexible Brexit affects negatively Irish freight forwarders

The uncertainty around Brexit means that many Irish companies in the freight industry are not fully prepare for it, reports The Irish Times. Firms do not wish to invest in additional staff and measures for a no-deal Brexit because the exit date chances on a regular basis.

“We are pleased that an extension has been agreed. The extra time will allow companies to continue with their preparations,” said Tom Thornton, Brexit spokesman for the Irish International Freight Association.

Companies are frustrated with the new flextension which could allow the UK to leave either in June or October. This causes too much uncertainty and industry experts in Ireland believe the industry is reluctant to prepare for it.

The Freight Association expects that Irish companies will postpone hiring new staff and will instead continue to train existing personal how to deal with the possibility of no-Brexit or Brexit with a deal.
