NewMotion sets ambitious targets for smart charging solutions
The European Commission presented its plan to reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. Melanie Lane, CEO of smart charging solutions provider, NewMotion, has shared her thoughts on the latest EU announcement and welcomes the new target. Unsurprisingly, electric vehicles will play a vital role in ensuring the new target is hit and NewMotion is ready to meet this demand over the coming years.
“The European Commission has today announced a higher target for the greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2030, shifting from a 40% to 55% reduction, in comparison to 1990’s levels. Electric vehicles, of course, will be central to that and NewMotion welcomes and supports the target.
Although some markets may have been slower to invest than others, this recent policy indicates that across Europe, governments plan to continue promoting charging solutions to support EV demand. There’s no doubt that the economic disruption has impacted EV sales, but it’s encouraging to see that they have been more resilient than other parts of the automotive sector. In fact, we’re still expecting sales to increase year-on-year, which is amazing given the circumstances.
Alongside a number of key partnership announcements this year which powered businesses towards sustainability, NewMotion is ready to meet this demand to support wider EV adoption across Europe over the coming years. We want to go from installing 60 chargers a day to 600 a day by the time we reach 2025 – this is not so much a target but a necessity.
Whilst the new EU target is proof that policy support will be vital for effective charging infrastructure, we must also see greater collaboration amongst charging solution providers across Europe to achieve such a target, with interoperability at the core of this. Naturally, we ourselves are going to need to put some serious infrastructure development in motion to support that uptick, and now is a good time for businesses building back from the crisis to look at how they can bring their strategy into line with the growing adoption of EVs. Our number one aim is to get as many people driving clean miles as possible and we’re excited to be part of the journey.”
