The AI that helps sleepy drivers

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used in many industries, but the transport sector is one where it can make a real difference when it comes to safety, reliance, flexibility, and cost cutting.

Different developers have created AI powered devices that record drivers behaviour and prescribe appropriate actions. Samsara, a San Francisco based start-up, uses AI to identify distracted driving. The company says its technology can detect when the driver is not focused on the road and immediately send a signal.

The telematics industry is using Internet of Things devices and platforms to collect and analyse the data gathered from vehicles.

AI is entering the world of telematics where developers like Vision Track implement the technology as an alarm clock that wakes up sleepy driver. The system is capable of detecting when the driver looks tired and recommends additional breaks. If the driver does not answer the alarm the information is sent to a central location where an operator can contact them.

The telematics industry is using Internet of Things devices and platforms to collect and analyse the data gathered from vehicles. This enables companies to have a better view over what is happening with their fleets and understand what changes need to be made.

What customers are looking are systems that can answer their specific needs and can be fitted to their vehicles without problems. Real time data is becoming more important and firms prefer to use platforms that can provide them with full visibility at any given time. 'Access to real time data allows you to precisely control temperatures whilst monitoring vehicle reliability and the security of goods during transport,' says idem telematics, a company that works and develops system for better visibility.

Putting the real time data in the centre is keys for developers and they offer a range of platforms that immediately access and review footage. This videos are used as insurance and to train new drivers. Companies from the sector say that using a smarter telematics system reduces accidents and makes fleet operations more efficient.
