Tesla is on the road to producing robotaxis that wouldn’t require any human interaction by the end of 2020, Elon Musk announced in a webcast.
Musk said the software will be completely safe to operate all Tesla’s cars on its own so that the company can provide a robotaxi service. “Probably two years from now we’ll make a car with no steering wheels or pedals,” he told during the webcast.
The computers in the car are capable to control the vehicle and perform much better than any other existing software so all cars can be driven autonomously.
“At first it seems improbable. How could it be that Tesla, who has never designed a chip before would design the best chip in the world?” he said. “But that is objectively what has occurred. Not best by a small margin, best by a huge margin. It’s in the cars right now.”
