Sainsbury’s and Asda merge cancelled

The merging between Sainsbury’s and Asda, two of the four largest retail companies on the British market, has been blocked by the watchdog.

The deal was announced last year but competition authorities said it will be bad news for consumers and prices, reports The Guardian.

The deal would hit online shopping too, as well as, fuel prices.

Part of the ruling also says the merge would have caused lower quality, fewer choices for consumers, and bad shopping experience. It was also expected the deal would hit online shopping too, as well as, fuel prices.

Many welcome the decision but Sainsbury’s has lost a lot of its shares’ prices. The second biggest British retailer has been finding it difficult to compete in recent years with many customers choosing to go elsewhere.
