Companies in the logistics industry are most worried about how they will be able to respond to the UK’s government pledge for NetZero. Roger Bryant, Associate Director, Building & Project Consultancy, at Savills, says that a lot of developers in the industry are trying to work out what net zero carbon means for them. ‘There isn’t a consistent definition,’ Bryant explains in the latest The Logistics Point Magazine edition.

‘We know we need more warehousing space, but land availability is reduced and the planning framework is becoming more complex, Bryant continues. Additionally, companies are worried about the amount of power they need.
The energy infrastructure in the UK is under great pressure and developers are working under a paradox – how to deliver sustainable buildings that can operate under such strains.
Bryant believes that the need for more sustainable buildings will only grow. ‘In 2019 the world woke up and realised that we need to deal with this now. When Covid-19 is gone, we will still have to deal with those challenges.’ He expects that some legislative changes will be postponed but they will come forward for sure.
