The Covid-19 vaccine news is good but many worry health supply chains will not have enough logistics capacity to deliver them on time. According to Stephen Meyer, Industry Analyst at Gartner for Supply Chain, the sector has built enough resilience and capacity will most likely not be a problem. Other areas however might be.
‘Initially, when we started thinking about the sheer magnitude of that challenge there was a lot of concern about capacity,’ Meyer explains adding that even if only half of the population of the planet needs to be vaccinated that would still be nearly 8 billion doses, as some vaccines require double shots. To put the numbers into perspective Meyer believes this would take between 400-500 Boeing 747-s full of nothing but vaccines.
